The MUNCH museum is one of the world’s largest museums dedicated to a single artist, and it manages an important artistic world heritage: Edvard Munch. The MUNCH museum`s program also covers modern and contemporary art, publishing activities, digital experiences, as well as an ambitious events program. We have big ambitions both locally and internationally. We succeed if we can make encounters with art meaningful and relevant to more people. Now we are looking for someone who wants to help strengthen our professional profile and reach even more visitors.
The Conservation Dpartment is part of the newly established Collections Department and is responsible for safeguarding the museum’s collections and ensuring the best possible preservation of artworks according to the latest standards. The section consists of painting and paper conservators as well as a conservation scientist.
As a paper conservator, you will be part of the team that examines, treats, documents, and researches the paper collection. You will actively contribute to the museum’s loan and exhibition activities, be responsible for disseminating professional knowledge, collaborate with other disciplines in managing the collection, and carry out other tasks related to the position.
Through high professional integrity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and holistic thinking in complex tasks, you will help develop how we preserve, research, and make the collections and exhibitions at the MUNCH museum accessible.
The position involves some travel in connection with courier assignments.

Work Tasks
- Conduct examinations of technique and materials used in artworks
- Carry out condition assessments and reports, as well as documentation
- Perform conservation treatments
- Provide advice on preventive conservation
- Contribute conservation expertise in interdisciplinary exhibition projects, participate in exhibition installation and deinstallation
- Undertake courier work
- Contribute to development and participate in or lead conservation/research projects
- Take part in the museum’s interdisciplinary research activities
Qualifications
Required:
- Master’s degree or equivalent education in paper conservation
- Minimum 1 year of work experience

- 3–5 years of work experience
