SUMMARY:19th International Congress of Classical Archaeology
DESCRIPTION:„Archaeology and Economy in the Ancient World“ is the topic of the 19th International Congress of Classical Archaeology which will be held in Bonn and Cologne from 22-26 May 2018.\nThe congress provides the most important platform of exchange for all disciplines that deal with Greco-Roman civilization and their neighbouring cultures from the Aegean Bronze Age to the end of Late Antiquity. \nThe 19th International Congress of Classical Archaeology 2018 will focus on the primary theme „Archaeology and Economy in the Ancient World“. In fact\, economic aspects permeate all areas of public and private life in ancient societies\, whether in urban development\, in religion or art\, in housing or in death. \nResearch on ancient economy has long played a significant role in ancient history. Increasingly in the last decades\, awareness has grown in archaeology that especially the material culture of ancient societies offers excellent approaches for the study of structure\, performance and dynamics of ancient economic systems and economic processes. \nThe objective of this congress will be to understand economy as a central element of classical societies and analyse its mutual interaction with current geographical\, political\, social\, religious and cultural backgrounds. SUMMARY:Conference "Conservation of Modern Oil Paints"
DESCRIPTION:On 23-25 May 2018\, the Cultural Heritage Agency of The Netherlands\, in collaboration with the University of Amsterdam\, Tate\, The Courtauld Institute of Art and the University of Pisa and associated partners\, will be hosting a three-day conference on modern oil paints. \nThis event marks the conclusion of the project ‘Cleaning Modern Oil Paints’ (2015-2018)\, a collaborative European research project exploring some of the most interesting and pertinent challenges associated with the conservation of 20th and 21st century oil paintings. \nThe focus of the conference will be on the conservation issues of sensitive contemporary oil paint surfaces and the behaviour of oil paints seen from various perspectives. The conference aims to address a wider public of conservators from all fields (e.g. painting\, sculpture\, paper)\, researchers\, artists\, curators\, paint manufactures and interested practitioners. A particular focus will be on the practice of conservation and how knowledge is transferred from conservators to researchers and vice versa. \nThe conference will be held in Amsterdam under the auspices of the Netherlands Institute for Conservation\, Art and Science (NICAS). \nFurther information

SUMMARY:"Blickwinkel - Hafenkulisse mit Rostcharme oder Chance auf authentischen Erhalt? Großobjekte im Fokus"
DESCRIPTION:Die VDR Fachgruppe Industrielles Kulturgut/Kulturgut der Moderne wird mit der Veranstaltungsreihe „… 3\, 2\, 1!“ in den folgenden Jahren an drei unterschiedlichen Arealen der Industriekultur das Verständnis für und die Bereitschaft zum Erhalt des Kulturguts der Moderne fördern. Nach einer Exkursion\, die im Oktober 2017 zu Großobjekten im Hamburger Hafen führte\, geht es weiter mit einem Symposium am Museum der Arbeit/Hafenmuseum im Hamburger Hafen vom 24.-26.05.2018.  \nMit dem Anspruch an eine authentische Erhaltung von Großobjekten der Industriekultur potenzieren sich zumeist die Frage- und Problemstellungen: Welche Konsequenzen zeigt eine Erhaltung in Funktion an? Was bedeutet eine Stilllegung? Wird die Statik gefährdet sein? Können Beschichtungen sinnvoll erhalten werden? Wie kann eine regelmäßige Wartung gewährleistet werden? Und wie überschaubar sind die Kosten? \nDiesen und weiteren Fragen soll mittels Vorträgen aus der praktischen Arbeit nachgegangen werden. Im gemeinsamen Diskurs mit moderierter Diskussionsrunde können Erfahrungen ausgetauscht und bestenfalls neue Wege im Umgang mit der Thematik angedacht werden. \nHinweis: Die ARGE GfKORR im VDR wird ihr nächstes reguläres Treffen im Rahmen des Symposiums abhalten.
