SUMMARY:Big Stuff Conference
DESCRIPTION:From 11-13 September\, 2019\, lovers of big industrial machinery will gather at Katowice in Poland for the sixth Big Stuff conference. With the theme „Preserving large industrial objects in a changing environment“\, the conference will address the future of large scale industrial heritage in the face of a rapidly changing environment\, where social relations\, architectural and urban design\, landscape environments\, mobility infrastructures\, spatial functions are all being transformed\, and where climate change adds another unknown to the preservation of historic buildings and machinery. \nThe conference welcomes heritage professionals and academics\, private machinery owners\, heritage volunteers and students. Registration is 200 € . To register please go to the conference website at: https://www.muzeatechniki.pl/bigstuff/ \nThe conference will start with a tour of local industrial heritage\, followed by a day of papers showcasing projects and raising new ideas for the preservation of heritage machinery. The final day will be spent working on plans for transitioning a local colliery from a working commercial operation to a heritage site. This follows the tradition of holding practical workshop sessions at Big Stuff conferences and will provide the Colliery team with ideas from an international audience\, and conference delegates with the opportunity to experience idea generation and project planning for a real site at a world class level. Big Stuff particularly welcomes students and emerging heritage practitioners\, as well as people working with heritage machinery in a private or volunteer capacity who are looking for ideas to take back to their own sites and projects. \nFor those who would like to explore more of the industrial heritage of the region before and after the conference\, there is a nearby Steam Gala on the 7-8 September. We also hope to offer an optional tour to Petrila\, the oldest colliery in the coal basin of the Jiu Valley in nearby Romania. \nThe conference presentations will be in English\, and papers will be made available in both English and Polish. After the conference abstracts will be publicly available on the Big Stuff website at http://bigstuff.omeka.net/ and selected full papers will be published in a university journal.

SUMMARY:Conference "The Conservator's Reflection"
DESCRIPTION:The fifth IIC Student & Emerging Conservator Conference will be held at the Cologne Institute of Conservation Sciences (CICS) from the 12th–14th of September 2019. The conference aims at providing a meeting platform for conservation students and recent graduates to discuss their professional goals\, needs and expectations\, and to connect internationally. \nThe conference will have the same format as the last four successful IIC-SEC Conferences in London (2011)\, Copenhagen (2011)\, Warsaw (2015) and Bern (2017). Panel discussions\, studio visits and social events will offer invaluable networking opportunities. The format further allows the next generation of conservation professionals to gain valuable information and advice from our invited speakers who have already walked that path. \nThe conference’s title is “The Conservator’s Reflection”. This title is meant to be ambiguous – How do we see ourselves as conservation professionals? Also\, however\, how are we seen by others\, both by colleagues in institutions and by the general public? DESCRIPTION:„Zusammenwirken – Die Denkmalbaustelle aus dem Blickwinkel verschiedener Disziplinen“\nEin Fachgespräch am 13.09.2019 in der Johanniskirche in Brandenburg a.d. Havel\nSo vielschichtig\, wie die Geschichte und Struktur eines Denkmals sein kann\, so speziell sind oft dessen bauliche Belange\, die verwendeten Materialien und handwerklichen Techniken. Neben den Aufgaben\, vor die einen das historische Bauwerk stellt\, liegen die eigentlichen Herausforderungen im Prozess des Planen und Bauens auf zwischenmenschlicher Ebene. Um die Bauwerke denkmalgerecht in die  Zukunft zu bringen\, ist es wichtig\, dass verschiedenste Fachdisziplinen zusammenarbeiten: von Denkmalpflegern\, Architekten und Ingenieuren\, über Restauratoren und Bauforscher hin zu Sachverständigen\, Handwerkern und Haustechnikern – die Baustelle wird zur Schnittstelle unterschiedlichster Wissensfelder und Fähigkeiten. Sie ist der Schmelztiegel\, in dem Theorie und Praxis sich vereinen. Bei all dieser gebündelten Fachkenntnis ist es oft eine große Herausforderung\, den Blick für’s Ganze zu wahren und tatsächlich ‚zusammenzuwirken‘ – die ursprüngliche Bedeutung des Wortes „Kooperation“. \nDie Veranstaltung ist ausgebucht. Es besteht aber die Möglichkeit\, sich per E-Mail an ahting(at)ak-brandenburg.de  auf eine Warteliste eintragen zu lassen. Sobald ein Platz frei wird\, geben die Organisatoren Bescheid. \nProgramm mit kurzer Zusammenfassung der Beiträge \nDer VDR beteiligt sich. Prof. Dr. Jan Raue + Olaf Schwieger (Dipl.-Restauratoren im VDR-Präsidium) berichten in einem Vortrag über die Arbeit der Restauratoren\, die den Dualismus von Planung und Umsetzung beinhaltet sowie über die Gründung der BBIK-Fachsektion „Restaurierung und Denkmalpflege“ im Sommer 2018 und welche Vorteile hieraus erwachsen. \nDas Fachgespräch ist eine Veranstaltung der Brandenburgischen Architektenkammer und des Brandenburgischen Landesamtes für Denkmalpflege und Archäologischen Landesmuseums\, organisiert und durchgeführt vom Büro Dr. Krekeler Architekten und Generalplaner\, mit freundlicher Unterstützung der Stadt Brandenburg an der Havel. \n
