SUMMARY:Online-conference: conservation of ceramics in open air
DESCRIPTION:CONSERVATION OF CERAMICS IN OPEN AIR \nOnline-Meeting\nFaenza \nNew! 10th of June 2021 \nThe second edition of the annual event\, organized at the International Ceramics Museum in Faenza (MIC) on the topic of conservation and restoration of ceramics\, will concern the works placed outdoors.\nSince ancient times\, ceramic material has been used outdoors for architectural and decorative purposes\, becoming more recently a vehicle for artistic expressions characterizing the urban layout and also aimed at its re-evaluation. Many Italian centers\, such as Faenza\, are characterized by a widespread ceramic heritage\, which very often ends up being indiscriminately absorbed in the generalized perception of the city\, at the expense of its knowledge and conservation. The open air location also subjects the works to the aggressive action of environmental\, atmospheric and anthropic factors. It follows the need to protect and preserve this multifaceted heritage\, the vulnerability of which only emerges when the manifestations of degradation become so evident as to require complex and costly restorations or the movement of the ceramics in a confined environment. Many conservative interventions could be avoided or reduced in their extent\, if more frequent maintenance of the maintenance of the deterioration could occur\, which could be carried out before the onset of degradation\, could contribute to prolonging and improving the permanence of the products in the external environment. \nFor further information in english and italian

SUMMARY:Vortrag: Living Materials. Ethics and Principles for Embodied Stewardship
DESCRIPTION:This conversation between artist and archivist Cori Olinghouse and art historian Megan Metcalf examines embodied conservation skills\, which are essential for the preservation of performance and related mediums yet remain mostly invisible and under-theorized in visual art. The presentation begins from the premise that dance and other performance forms have inherent strategies for continuation that mitigate against their ephemerality. First the speakers lay out paradigms from dance and improvisation for originality\, authorship\, and continuity that are at odds with those of object conservation. This sets up an exploration of the care of live art at museums and beyond institutions through a «mutual interview» focused on each speaker’s experience with translating dance and performance works for the present and future. \nNext in the series Forschungs-Donnerstag/Research Thursday\, this online event is hosted within the framework of the research project Performance: Conservation\, Materiality\, Knowledge funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation SNSF at the Bern University of the Arts. \nIntroduction by Hanna B. Hölling\, in collaboration with SNSF Performance team members\, Valerian Maly\, Julia Pelta Feldman and Emilie Magnin. There will be a possibility to engage with the speakers in the Q&A. \nZoom-Link folgt auf Anmeldung \nWeitere Informationen und Anmeldung \n10.06.2021\, 17.30 Uhr – online – zoom
