SUMMARY:3D – Durchblick oder Datenmüll? Dreidimensionale Scan-Verfahren in der Konservierung/Restaurierung
DESCRIPTION:Der VDR organisiert vom 01.-03. März 2018 mit freundlicher Unterstützung der Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden die Fachtagung „3D – Durchblick oder Datenmüll? Dreidimensionale Scan-Verfahren in der Konservierung/Restaurierung“ mit Workshop. \nWelche Chancen bietet ein 3D-Modell für die Arbeit der Restauratoren? Oder ersetzen die digitalen Medien unsere Bemühungen um den Erhalt der originalen Substanz? \nDiesen Fragen soll im Rahmen einer Fachtagung des VDR mit Unterstützung der HfBK Dresden zur Anwendung von 3D-Verfahren in unserem Berufsfeld nachgegangen werden. In Vorträgen zu den technischen Verfahren selbst werden Vor- und Nachteile bewertet und technische Möglichkeiten ausgelotet. Die unterschiedlichen Einsatzgebiete von der Dokumentation dreidimensionaler Objekte über virtuelle Rekonstruktionen bis hin zum Monitoring sollen anhand erfolgreicher Anwendungen beispielhaft vorgestellt werden. \nEin Workshop zur Herstellung eines 3D-Modells mit Hilfe einfacher Tools wird ein Tag vor der Fachtagung am 1. DESCRIPTION:Das Bayerische Landesamt für Denkmalpflege lädt am 8. und 9. März zu seinen sogenannten Werkstattgesprächen ein. Von tatsächlichen Gesprächen in der Werkstatt hat sich das Format in den vergangenen Jahren zu einer Tagungsreihe entwickelt. Thema in diesem Jahr ist die Restaurierungsplanung. SUMMARY:Call for Papers: 5th International NGO Forum on World Heritage
DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with the 42nd Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee\, and in partnership with our network of indigenous peoples‘ and civil society organizations\, World Heritage Watch is organizing the 5th International NGO Forum on World Heritage at Risk 22 – 23 June 2018 in Manama\, Bahrain.\n\nThe Forum will follow four International NGO Fora held in St. Petersburg in 2012\, in Bonn 2015\, in Istanbul 2016\, and in Krakow 2017.\nThe Forum will discuss cases of World Heritage Sites where there is a concern for their protection and safeguarding which should be brought to the attention of the World Heritage Committee and the general public. \nPresentations shall provide information about the sites which\n– is new and relevant for the protection and safeguarding of the site; and/or\n– has not received adequate consideration by the State Party or UNESCO; and/or\n– reflects the perspective of the local population at the site and/or civil society actors;\nin order to help the World Heritage Committee and its Advisory Bodies to have a more comprehensive assessment of the site and thus arrive at better decisions during its session. \nPapers should cover sites which will be on the agenda of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee’s 42nd Session\, or which should be put on the agenda with urgency. In addition to sites which are inscribed on the World Heritage List\, the Forum will also consider sites which are nominated for inscription on the World Heritage List\, which are on a Tentative List or should be on a Tentative List. \nPapers should be as specific\, concise and detailed as possible. Where applicable\, they should refer as much as possible to prior decisions of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee\, and should make clear suggestions for action. For general orientation we also suggest that you consult the Final Document of the WHW 2015 Bonn Conference\, and the list of sites on the agenda of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee Meeting\, both of which can be found on the WHW website. \nAny and all persons of any occupational background – except officials involved on national or international level in decision-making on world heritage sites – are invited to submit papers. Representatives of non-governmental organizations\, indigenous peoples\, local initiatives and professional associations related to conservation and/or the empowerment of civil society or indigenous peoples will be given priority when papers are selected for presentation on the Forum.\nIn addition to presentation on the Forum\, World Heritage Watch may also arrange access to the media and an additional presentation as a side event during the UNESCO WH Committee Meeting.\nPlease send your full paper in English language by 10 March 2018 to contact(at)world-heritage-watch.org. \nMore information \n

SUMMARY:Call for Papers : Wet Paint - interactions between water and paintings
DESCRIPTION:A one-day conference is to be held at the National Museum of Scotland\, Edinburgh\, on Friday 12th October 2018. Deadline for the receipt of abstracts is 31st March 2018.\nThere are many ways in which water and humidity can physically alter paintings\, sometimes with disastrous effect; such as staining canvases\, flaking and blanching paint\, warping of wooden panels and cockling canvas supports. However\, water is also a useful material for conservators that can be employed in the treatment of painted surfaces\, such as: in the form of aqueous cleaning solutions\, for moisture treatments to reduce deformations\, and as a carrier for adhesives. \nThis conference will look at the ways in which water and paintings can interact\, and their implications for the conservator. We welcome papers that address new research or report case studies of treatments. Papers could address topics such as: \n• water damage and its treatment\n• relative humidity and its effect on paintings\n• water sensitivity of paint\n• aqueous cleaning systems\n• water soluble restoration materials \nThose wishing to put forward a paper should write their proposal using the abstract template\, which can be downloaded from the ICON website or can be requested via the email address below. \nDeadline for the receipt of abstracts is 31st March 2018 and they should be returned by email to icon.paintingsgroup@googlemail.com. \n*It should be noted that it is our intention to publish the papers as part of our successful series of postprints. \nGuide for Abstracts/Presenters: \nThe proposals should be a maximum of 500 words. If the committee selects your paper for presentation\, we will then request a copy of the full paper for peer-review. \nTalks should be 20 minutes. For the smooth running of the programme\, we would like all presenters to submit a PowerPoint presentation in advance of the conference. We will also require an abstract in word format (approximately 200 words) with a biography of the author(s) for the conference handouts.
