December 3โ€“4, 2026

Deadline: June 30, 2026

What if conservation is not primarily about preserving objects โ€” but about sustaining relationships, stories, rituals, memories, and communities?

The firstย ๐—–๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—นย ๐—–๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜ƒ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ปย ๐—”๐˜€๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฏ๐—น๐˜†ย invites scholars, artists, Indigenous custodians, conservators, activists, craftspeople, curators, community workers, and practitioners across disciplines to rethink conservation as a relational, pluricultural, and political practice.

We are especially interested in contributions that challenge dominant object-centered paradigms and the dominance of Western conservation’s authenticism and scientism and explore how cultural continuity is maintained through care, renewal, transmission, repetition, performance, storytelling, and collective practice.

Topics may include:

โ€ข Community-led and Indigenous conservation practices

โ€ข Reenactment, renewal, and conservation through transformation

โ€ข Repatriation, decoloniality, and shared custodianship

โ€ข Embodied knowledge and intergenerational transmission

โ€ข Maintenance, care, and everyday conservation

โ€ข Conservation ontologies

โ€ข Natureculture and more-than-human heritage

โ€ข Digital communities, gaming, online archives, and networked stewardship

Formats include:

โ€ข 15โ€“20 minute presentations

โ€ข Duet talks

โ€ข Storytelling and oral formats

โ€ข Audio-visual submissions

โ€ข โ€œOne-slideโ€ interventions (5 min)

We strongly encourage submissions from non-academic practitioners and members of historically marginalized communities.
